Thank you for visiting our crowdfunding campaign blog!
February 2018 will mark our first ever major fundraising drive as a social enterprise and as we hurtle towards our launch date (22nd February if you were wondering), we’re conscious that our work is sometimes a little confusing and might need a little introduction… so here goes:
What is Harper Performance and what do you do?
We’re a high performance sports consultancy, operating worldwide, that specialises in the provision of support services for athletes, teams and sports organisations that are hamstrung by logistical, financial and sociocultural barriers to sporting excellence.
Our team of sports scientists, sports medicine practitioners, strength & conditioning coaches, nutritionists and psychologists all have at least five years experience working at the top echelons of elite sport around the world. Over the years, we’ve come to understand that more often that not, access to the right expertise, at the right time is often the biggest barrier for the disadvantaged athlete in realising their full sporting potential.
However, mimicking resource-rich performance-support programmes isn’t feasible nor sustainable for the athletes, teams and organisations facing adversity and disadvantage. We believe that by working in collaboration with our clients from design to delivery - by utilising their understanding of the obstacles they face and our teams expertise in their respective fields, we’re able to develop culturally aware, relevant, regenerative and above-all else, locally driven performance-support provisions that are sustainable long after we go home.
Over the coming months, and especially during our 30-day crowdfunding campaign, we will be sharing the stories of the athletes, teams and organisations we are working with. We’ll be asking you to join us in solidarity with those athletes as humans who deserve an equal footing to pursue their ambitions to reach the very top of their sport and the chance to test themselves against the very best in the world.
Whatever their adversity, we, as an organisation, are determined that our campaign will be based around solidarity rather than guilt, a shared drive for change rather than pity for the disadvantaged athlete. We hope that through a campaign of solidarity, not only can we reach our fundraising target, but through the stories we share and the futures we are looking to support, we can help change the prevailing Western narrative of places like West and Southern Africa, areas of the Middle East and certain regions in Asia to reflect the incredible sporting heritage, current successes and aspirational futures these communities embody.
Some of these athletes herald from areas in the world where, for large swathes of the population, daily survival is the top priority, and in that sense, our work, and sport itself may seem like a superficial event. But it is our belief, and the belief of those we work with in those communities, that sport serves as a marker of stability in an otherwise volatile and challenging existence. Sport allows these athletes, communities, and peoples to forge an identity, and draw international attention for reasons other than the conflict, poverty, famine and disease that fills our airwaves on a daily basis.
The British remain among the most generous in the world, consistently making the top ten nations in the CAF World Giving Index (although dropping to 11th in 2017) so we hope that you will support our crowdfunding campaign in February.
In the meantime, you can help us way before the February launch… please, please, please spread the word by telling just one person about Harper Performance today, and, lastly, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly should you have any questions or want to offer up some words of wisdom, you can reach me via email@example.com.
Thanks for your ongoing support and have a wonderful build up to the festive season!
